Well we finally managed to finish ripping off the loose section of the rear bumper while backing up! It was replaced with a strong steel unit. This one should handle the trees we back into with little problem!

We now have a new PC Tablet for the truck. We picked up the new ASUS Eee Slate computer. It is fully touch sensitive and supports a stylus as well. The other big change is that it has a solid state drive so it should handle the rough roads much better than our old aging Acer unit. I am also impressed with its faster performance.
Last year we purchased tire chains for the truck and used them a few times but we kept snapping links. After our first trip where we used them this season, we decided to give up with them. They just weren't strong enough.
So new heavy chains were purchased. They are actually fairly easy to put on and after trying them out on a couple of trips, I can say that they work really well. They dig in and grip the ice or hard pack snow very quickly and allow us to blaze through virgin snow with ease, and not a single damaged link.
We now have a proper pedestal desk for the computer that we take with us in the back country. This will keep our computer safer as we make our way over the very rough roads. Our environment is so tough that the supplier ordered an extra support brace for the stand even though it is already their toughest unit and designed for rough roads!
We had a large second battery installed and directly coupled to the truck's electrical system. This battery will supply our winch and onboard radio equipment with enough power to meet the toughest of problems.
After several years of wanting a winch for the truck and several trips where I could have used one, the new truck finally has a Warn 12000 pound electric winch. This little beast should be able to pull us out of anything!
Our old Pathfinder was finally beaten into the ground and was no longer safe for use on the logging roads. So a new truck was in order. I decided to get a larger truck and ended up with a Ford F250. Though this guy is quite a bit bigger than the Pathfinder and will limit us in some of the tighter areas we have travelled; it will be able to transport a side-by-side ATV which I plan to purchase next year. I still need to add a bush guard, winch and cover for the back to finish it off, but commercial radio has already found its new home. So I should be able to take it out for its first adventure on Saturday to get me to the start of the Lady Peak hike.
After several years of waiting and planning, the new layout for ScenicArt.ca is finished. The new site brings together the published images that are offered for purchase with the photo journal Eric writes for his back-country adventures.
The eStore makes it easy to select your images in a variety of sizes and formats. Check back regularly to read about the latest adventures and explore new features of the site as they become available.
It was another attempt to make good distance on the logging roads while trekking in snow shoes. Though one doesn't get the distance one does while hiking the challenge is greater not to mention the increase in exercise! Our goal had been to get to a good view point for a few photos but as we had to start quite low on the hillside we didn't get up high enough for good photos.
